Healthcare Express Entry Draws: Dedicated Stream for Health Workers
Healthcare Category Draws
In 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection for Express Entry, targeting specific occupations in high demand. Healthcare is one of the priority categories. IRCC holds dedicated draws for healthcare workers, often with significantly lower CRS cut-offs than general draws. This means nurses, physicians, and other health professionals may receive an ITA with scores in the 400s or low 500s, whereas general draws might require 520+. These draws reflect Canada's urgent need to fill healthcare gaps, especially in rural and underserved areas.
Eligible Occupations
Eligible healthcare occupations typically include: NOC 31100 (physicians), NOC 31101 (specialists), NOC 31300 (registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses), NOC 31301 (nurse practitioners), NOC 32101 (licensed practical nurses), NOC 32102 (paramedics), NOC 32103 (respiratory therapists), NOC 32104 (cardiovascular technologists), NOC 32109 (other health technologists), NOC 33100 (dental hygienists), NOC 33101 (dental therapists), NOC 33102 (dental technologists), NOC 41300 (social workers), and NOC 42200 (early childhood educators). The exact list may be updated; always check IRCC's current category-based selection page.
How to Prepare
Ensure your Express Entry profile accurately reflects your healthcare occupation. Use the correct NOC code and provide detailed job descriptions that match the lead statement and main duties. If you're licensed in Canada or have a job offer in healthcare, highlight it. Keep your profile updated—if you gain more experience or improve your language score, your CRS will increase. Consider provincial streams as well; many provinces have dedicated healthcare pathways that can complement or bypass Express Entry.
